Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive, detail-driven Travel Data & Mapping Project Intern to support a unique and impactful data initiative. This remote, part-time placement will be instrumental in building a comprehensive and visually intelligent database of UK-based travel agencies and tour operators. You will gain hands-on experience in data sourcing, cleaning, and structuring, as well as applying digital mapping and automation tools. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone interested in AI, data, technology and the travel industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Research & Collection: Systematically research and collect targeted data on UK travel agencies and tour operators. Research and recommend the best web tools for the desired outcome, including web scraping platforms and other AI tools for streamlining the collection of data from industry directories, and professional networking sites like LinkedIn.
- Data Cleaning & Structuring: Meticulously clean, standardise, and enrich raw datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability for future integration with AI tools or CRM systems.
- Database Management: Accurately upload, maintain, and update data within chosen database tools such as Airtable or Google Sheets, ensuring data integrity, accessibility and compatibility with required tools.
- Digital Mapping: Assist in the creation of interactive, cluster-based maps of travel agencies and tour operators using platforms like Google Maps or Mapbox, to visually represent market density and facilitate targeted outreach.
- Process Automation & Streamlining: Actively suggest and contribute to the implementation of automation workflows to streamline data collection, cleaning, and updating processes, enhancing overall efficiency.
- Documentation: Develop clear and concise documentation of all data processes, methodologies, and tool usage to ensure continuity and enable future team members to replicate tasks effectively.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Research Acumen: A self-starter with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to online research and data collection.
- Data Management Proficiency: Comfortable and proficient with spreadsheet software, specifically Google Sheets, or experience with Airtable.
- Technical Interest: Familiarity with or a strong interest in web scraping tools (e.g., PhantomBuster).
- Analytical Mindset: A problem-solving approach to challenges, with an aptitude for organising and structuring information.
- Digital Literacy: Interest in or experience with basic digital mapping tools, or a strong willingness and ability to learn quickly.
- Communication & Organisation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organisational abilities to manage tasks and documentation effectively within a remote team environment.
- Industry Interest: A genuine interest in the travel industry, digital marketing, data projects, or emerging technologies is highly desirable.
